WAITING CHILDREN

These children have waited far too long for their forever families. They have faced so much heartache and trauma in their short lives, and often, are in desperate need for access to quality medical care and therapies. These children have a wide range of special needs, including cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, epilepsy, microcephaly, hydrocephalus, and other developmental delays. Could you be the one to make their dreams of a forever family come true?

"Honestly? Do your research and be prepared. It will be harder than you can imagine. Trauma behavior training should be required before adopting. They are worthy, but it is so very hard."

0-5 - These sweet littles are still bright eyed and full of hope. They may be too young to be in school or even understand what adoption is, but what is obvious is that they need loving families and early intervention so that they can learn and grow as a cherished son or daughter. Don't let their light fade as they grow older without loving parents. Scoop them up while they're still little! 60% of children who are adopted internationally are age five or younger.

"By providing a home for a child with special needs, you are helping break down stereotypes and promote inclusion. You may also inspire others to consider adopting a child with special needs, making a difference in the lives of many children"

6-10 - Elementary aged kids are so much fun! While they are still young, they are also old enough to understand what exactly is happening around them, and that they don't have a mama or papa to love or tuck them in at night. These children long to be apart of a loving family where they are cherished, accepted, and understood. Playing with siblings and cousins, and the contagious joy that they bring, could you imagine one of these kiddos as a part of your family? When orphans turn age six, there is only a 5% chance that they will be adopted. That statistic is much lower for children with disabilities. In some countries, this is about the age in which children are transferred into a facility for young adults. Many of these facilities have very little funding, and therefore the children become neglected, starved, and in some cases, abused. Many of these children die within the first year after transfer.

"By providing a loving home for a child with special needs, you are making a positive impact that will last for generations"

11-13 - Middle school aged children. Tweeners. Such a fun group! Many of these children have been waiting since they were little to be chosen, but each year after year they continue to go overlooked. Older children are least likely to be adopted, yet they are still so deserving! Many of these children have large grants towards their adoption. Don't be afraid of adopting an older child. They need families too, and are running out of time! Many countries like Ukraine & Colombia have host to adopt programs that allow a child eligible for international adoption to come to America and stay with a host family for a few weeks during winter or summer breaks! These children typically have mild special needs or are a part of a sibling group. A note will be on the child's blog post if they are eligible to be hosted. This is a great way for a family to get to know a child and see if they would like to adopt that child!

"A diagnosis can't predict the extraordinary love you will have for your child"

14+ AGING OUT, AMERICAN FAMILIES NEED TO APPLY BY 16TH BIRTHDAY (if the child has younger siblings, American families must apply by 18th birthday) - The oldest children, who have just a couple years left before they are stuck in a system forever. Teenagers are the least likely to be adopted. Still, they long for families, to be loved, and to be known as a son or daughter. When orphans, especially those with disabilities, age out of the system, life is not kind, and their fate is unpredictable. Many of these children, especially those with more significant disabilities, will be doomed to spend forever in a crowded institution. It isn't too late to change their future though. Take a chance on one of these teenagers. They could just be the son or daughter you've always longed for. Orphans who age out of the system are more likely to experience homelessness & human trafficking. They are also at a greater risk for substance abuse, mental health disorders, crime, prostitution, prison, & suicide. For children with more significant disabilities, they will likely spend the rest of their lives in a lonely institution with very little stimulation or adequate care, and may experience abuse, neglect, and malnutrition.
