Hernia Awareness Month: Myles

JUNE IS HERNIA AWARENESS MONTH

Listed July 2022

"Myles"

Meet adorable "Myles"! Myles is 7 years old, and living in South America. He is diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury, developmental delay, and speech delay.

traumatic brain injury, or TBI, is caused by significant jolt or blow to the head. The severity of TBI's varies, but can cause headaches, speech problems, light or sound sensitivity, memory problems, or behavioral changes. In more severe cases, individuals may experience seizures, loss of coordination, numbness, and confusion.

Myles loves to go for car rides! He is a sweet and active boy with a big heart.

Myles can follow visual and auditory stimuli, and recognizes some objects and what they are used for (ie. a comb for his hair or a spoon to eat).

Myles' TBI occurred when he was 7 months old. His brain injury has mostly impacted his speech and overall development. It appears he has had brain surgery. Contact an agency to learn more how is brain injury impacts him.

hernia is a weak spot or tear in the muscles. This will often result in a bulging spot.

No information is available regarding Myles' hernia or if he has had surgery for it, but an agency can give more info.

Myles would benefit from physical, occupational, and speech therapy to help him reach his full potential.

UPDATE MARCH 2023

Myles is now listed as "Max" with Madison Adoptions! He had a family coming but unfortunately they were unable to continue, and he is back waiting for his forever family. His bio on Rainbowkids reads: Myles is an adorable little boy! He shows interest in animal figures and objects with bright colors, along with blocks. He also likes to watch children's programs. Myles is able to speak simple phrases and sentences, and can hold and draw with a pencil, even though his grip is weak and he scribbles. He can walk independently, though unsteadily and with an awkward gait.

UPDATE OCTOBER 2023

Myles is now listed as "Max" with Lifeline! He now has additional diagnoses of cerebral palsy, Potocki Shaffer Syndrome, club foot, a visual impairment, and a hernia. His update reads: Myles is fascinated by animals! He also enjoys colorful and bright objects. He enjoys watching children’s TV shows and listening to children’s music. I can't believe this sweet, handsome, little boy is still waiting for a family to call his own. Please don't let him go overlooked yet another year!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2024

Myles is now listed as "Lano" with Children's House International! The information in his file is from 2020. There likely will not be another update unless a family inquires. I can't believe this perfect boy is STILL waiting for a family to call his own. He sounds so amazing and I know would make someone very very happy. Myles has gone through so much hurt and pain in his short life, and although his needs are intimidating, are not impossible. Don't keep this precious guy waiting! Scroll above, click the link, and make an inquiry! From Rainbowkids: Myles entered care at the age of 18 months after his maternal aunt could no longer take care of him as she had been since he was born. At 7 months old he was hospitalized with a diagnosis of fracture of the skull vault, epidural hemorrhage, head trauma, and other specified post-surgical states, a surgical procedure was performed. When his aunt relinquished him to state care, she provided medical documentation, and it became clear that many medical instructions had not been followed. (At the age of 2 when the reports were conducted), Myles was not able to give and receive affection easily, and he had not established a strong bond with his foster mother. He has shown a dislike for physical contact and does not feel comfortable if anyone is too close to him. Sadly, many environmental aspects trigger him to cry. He does not play with adults or other children, and his self-play is often unorganized. Myles´ fine psychomotor skills are not well developed. His body movements are rigid most of the time and he has stereotyped behaviors. Myles is not able to walk yet. On the positive side, Myles goes to occupational, speech, and physical therapy and has showed improvements. He had a brain resonance imaging on 12/11/2019 and the results were fine, and he had an evoked auditory potentials exam on 1/12/2020 and the results were normal. The ophthalmologist diagnosed him with Astigmatism, without injuries. The child did not adapt to using glasses, but he will be kept under observation. Myles has a language development delay, achieving only the verbalization of syllabic sounds. He manages to follow visual and auditory stimuli, recognizes a limited number of objects, and associates them with his daily use imitating actions (combing with a comb, taking the spoon to his mouth)—however, such actions are interrupted most of the time because he throws the objects unexpectedly. He's capable of removing his clothes, even his diaper. He has frequent spasms without apparent cause. He has made progress in cross-crawling, which promotes his psychomotor development and ability to explore his immediate context. Myles' medical diagnoses are language and speech developmental disorder, overall developmental delay, undescended testicles, astigmatism, and behavioral issues. Despite his multiple health and emotional issues, Myles loves to be outside and enjoys being in the car. Due to both his age and special needs, Myles relies on others to meet all his needs including care and permanent attention, as well as stimulation aimed at enhancing his skills.

Myles is now listed as "Nicolas" with CCAI! His most recent update is short and sweet, but says "Myles is a little guy who loves to watch children's videos and programs on television."
