"Ivan"
Meet handsome "Ivan"! Ivan is 8 years old and living in Eastern Europe. He is diagnosed with a hearing impairment, developmental delays, and scoliosis. His described needs and behaviors resemble that of an autistic child, and a family should be prepared.
Ivan is described as an "extremely active, agile, and very cute boy who loves attention as well as cuddles." Ivan is a very happy boy, and smiles a lot! He is very cheerful, and laughs loudly. Ivan enjoys watching movies, and receiving attention. He loves hugs, and particularly playing with strollers, and will push them around. Ivan also enjoys being outdoors, playing with light up toys, cars, and balls. He does prefer to play alone.
Ivan can independently walk, run, and go up and down stairs. He is currently nonspeaking, and primarily communicates through sounds and facial expressions. He is able to independently eat and drink from a cup, and is potty trained. Ivan does have delays in his fine motor skills. He can match objects, string figures on a rope, and hold a pencil. He cannot write or draw, and instead scribbles. Ivan does not yet know his colors, how to use a knife, or how to do a puzzle. Ivan rarely responds to his name. Like any child, Ivan can be stubborn and impatient, but he is not aggressive towards himself or others. He understands all that is said to him, and recognizes tone. Ivan still needs assistance with dressing and undressing himself, but he can independently put on and take off his shoes when asked to. Ivan uses a lot of vocal stims. He will parallel play with other children, but does not initiate any interaction. He gets frustrated easily. Ivan is a busy boy who does not slow down, and is constantly in motion!
As of January 2025, Ivan is living in a group home. He is in 1st grade and receiving special education services. Ivan is also seen by a speech therapist and psychologist.
Ivan currently has $90 in his personal grant with Reece's Rainbow, and a $2,500 grant with Wasatch!
