Dysphagia Awareness Month: Viv

JUNE IS DYSPHAGIA AWARENESS MONTH

Listed August 2022

"Viv"

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare and painful skin condition. In people diagnosed with EB, skin is easily rubbed off or blistered. This causes painful sores and wounds all over the body. There are many orphans all over the world with EB waiting for their forever families. This is just one of their stories.

Starting off the week by introducing "Viv". Viv is a beautiful 5 year old girl living in South America. In addition to Epidermolysis Bullosa, Viv is also diagnosed with a speech delay. Viv also has a history of abuse.

Viv loves watching cartoons and playing at the playground. She loves music, and can dance while sitting. She likes to play with dolls too!

Dysphagia is a medical condition in which the individual has difficulty swallowing. It is very common in individuals with EB, like Viv. If not addressed, dysphagia can lead to weight loss, heart burn, and sore throats.

Viv's dysphagia is a result of her EB. Because of the sores in her throat and mouth, she has difficulty with swallowing and speaking. An agency can give more info about Viv's condition and how it impacts her.

No information is provided about Viv's EB or how it affects her, but it is clear from photos that she does appear to have full bandages on both arms and legs. This is common in patients with EB.

As of June 2023, Viv is now listed on Reece's Rainbow! She has $788.50 in her personal grant.

"Viv" is a beautiful child who is so deserving of a forever family. She really needs quality medical care, and a mama who will support her through all the painful days. EB is a lifelong condition requiring intense medical care, but Viv is surely worth it. Could this beautiful girl be your daughter? Consider adopting a child with EB. Consider Viv!

UPDATED DECEMBER 2023

Viv is now listed as "Rosalynn" with Nightlight Adoptions! Her update reads: Meet Viv, a resilient and joyful girl facing epidermolysis bullosa. Despite this diagnosis, this little angel is not defined by it; she is playful, and has a strong desire for closeness. She adores dolls, cherishes playtime with other children, and finds joy in watching videos on the phone. Viv is initially shy, but easily warms up with a beautiful smile, and communicates her needs. This remarkable girl seeks parents that are prepared to embrace her unique journey with love, unwavering support, and the specialized care she deserves. Are you ready to step into this extraordinary chapter and become an integral part of her remarkable story? Viv has waited for so long. I know this beautiful girl would just THRIVE in a family, and I pray that 2024 is her year. Mama where are you?

UPDATE JANUARY 2024

Viv is now listed as "Vada" with Children's House International! Her most recent update with Rainbowkids reads: Viv's biological parents were unable to care for her medical needs, and she entered state care in 2019. Despite her challenges, Viv possesses remarkable qualities. She can easily follow simple instructions and demonstrates her affectionate nature. Unfortunately, her skin wounds often disrupt her sleep, but she's allowed to rest whenever possible. Viv's talents include imitating the sounds of dogs, cats, and cows. While she's unable to hold small objects or walk due to her condition, Viv has made progress in certain areas. She can sit without assistance, drink from a cup, and eat with a spoon. Her cognitive development is progressing well, and she's even beginning to form short phrases consisting of 2 to 4 words. Viv finds joy in playing with her dolls, listening to music, visiting the park, and simply being outdoors.
