"Alfie"

Introducing sweet "Alfie"! Alfie is 5 years old, and living in South America. He is diagnosed with epilepsy, a hearing impairment, and a heart defect.

Alfie loves to hear his name. He is a very sweet boy who loves snuggles!

Alfie reacts to sounds and stimulation. He is currently nonverbal, but will make sounds. He is working on his fine motor skills with painting therapies.

Alfie has pulmonary hypertension. An agency can give more info about how this condition impacts Alfie.

Alfie has a diagnosis of epilepsy. Epilepsy is a condition in which an individual experiences frequent seizures. This can look differently depending on the individual, and there are many different types of seizures. Typically, epilepsy is well controlled with medication, but occasionally further testing and treatment may be necessary. The outlook and independence of an individual with epilepsy varies from the person, and can be a factor of other disabilities.

In Alfie's case, he is diagnosed with symptomatic focal epilepsy. People with this condition usually experience twitching or jerking muscle movements, uncontrolled tightening of muscles, or repetitive movements such as smacking lips together or blinking. It is not clear how Alfie's epilepsy affects him, but an agency can give more info.

Alfie has $472.50 in his personal grant with Reece's Rainbow!

UPDATE OCTOBER 2022

Alfie loves to be held by his caregivers and lots of attention! He reacts to his name being called and loves to play with toys. When agency staff met Alfie, he was fascinated by a woman's Apple Watch, which he preferred over a stuffed animal! Because of the location and altitude of his orphanage, his lungs struggle, and especially puts strain on him at night. Alfie would make for an amazing son. He would absolutely thrive in a family where he can learn and grow, as well as with access to quality medical care and therapies. Alfie now has a $5,000 grant towards his adoption with RODS Heroes!
