"Anthony"

Meet "Anthony"! Anthony is 14 years old and living in Africa. He is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, microcephaly, epilepsy, and a visual impairment.

This sweet boy has lived in his residential care home since he was a tiny baby, and somehow still waits for his forever family. Though he does have access to education and therapies and he is being well cared for, it could never replace the progress he could make in a family, and in a country with quality resources to help him grow.

Anthony is a happy guy who spreads joy wherever he goes! He loves music, and his favorite song is "You Are My Sunshine". How fitting!? He loves physical touch, and being held. He has a big smile and great laugh!

Anthony requires assistance with daily tasks. He is making progress in his communication skills. Anthony does use a wheelchair, but he would much rather be on the floor to crawl and explore. His caregivers express that if given the opportunity in a country with better medical care and therapies, in addition to love, Anthony could make huge strides in his development.

Anthony is currently in therapy at his residential care home, but it is unclear what kind.

No information is provided regarding Anthony's epilepsy or how it affects him, but an agency can give more info.

Anthony is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. CP is caused by a lack of oxygen at birth, or damage to the brain as an infant when the brain is still developing. This condition impacts the muscles, including body control and movement. Symptoms of cerebral palsy include stiff or contracted muscles, lack of muscle tone and coordination, and uncontrolled movements. Cerebral palsy can be mild or severe, impacting all the limbs and facial muscles in the most severe cases. There is no cure, but physical, occupational, and speech therapies can make a huge difference. In some cases, surgery is required to help loosen and stretch the tendons and muscles, relieving pain.

In Anthony's case, he is diagnosed with left hemiplegia, which means that he has paralysis on one vertical half of the body. It impacts his mobility, and he typically uses a wheelchair or crawls to get around. An agency can give more info about Anthony's cerebral palsy and how it impacts him.

Anthony currently has $2,086 in his personal grant towards his adoption!
