Prematurity Awareness Month: BARRETT ! AGING OUT !

NOVEMBER IS PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH

Listed September 2022

"Barrett"

Barrett will be aging out in April 2025!

Introducing "Barrett"! Barrett is 15 years old and living in Western Europe. In addition to being born premature, Barrett is also diagnosed with albinism.

Not much public information is available on Barrett other than his diagnoses, but what IS clear is that he has waited far too long for a forever family. Barrett is getting older, and as he does his chances of finding a forever family decrease. I am positive he'd be a blessing to any family. He just needs to find someone to take that leap of faith and make him their cherished son!

Barrett was born from a high risk pregnancy and is a twin. It is unclear if the twin lived or if that child still lives with the biological family, but Barrett is listed as only being adopted alone.

Children who are born premature are born typically before 37 weeks. Babies that are born premature are more likely to experience medical and health issues, and developmental delays. Depending on the age of a premature baby, the affects vary from child to child. While most premature children may have an intellectual disability or developmental delay that "catch up" as they get older, others will need lifelong care and supports.

Barrett was the result of a high risk twin pregnancy. Twins are often born premature. Barrett has obvious delays in the area of social skills and communication, as well as behavioral challenges. It is unclear if this is related to him being born premature, or to a different possible diagnosis. An agency can give more info.

Please don't let "Barrett"'s limited information keep you from making an inquiry. Behind that silhouette is a young man who is running out of time. Please don't let Barrett grow up an orphan!

UPDATE DECEMBER 2022

Barrett has an updated post and photo with Children's House International! Barrett is a child who presents changes in social interaction, emotional expression and communication with others (adults) and is unable to develop reciprocal relationships with peers and adults. Despite this situation, he likes to receive affection, caresses and physical contact with the adult. He has some ability to stay on task and concentrate, however, he needs permanent motivation, with activities to his liking. Barrett seeks proximity to the adult but needs constant positive reinforcement to adjust his behaviour. Click the link below to inquire about Barrett.
