Clifton

"Clifton"

Meet "Clifton"! Clifton is 12 years old and living in Eastern Europe. In addition to Arnold Chiari Malformation, Clifton has a long list of diagnoses, including kidney issues and dolichocephaly. He was also born with syphilis.

Clifton loves listening to music and dancing. Music is his favorite thing, and is always looking for a dancing partner! He will smile and laugh when playing with an adult or his foster siblings. He also likes to kick balls, playing with sand, play doh, and painting.

Clifton is currently living in a foster family in his home country. He is learning how to play with toys and interact with other children appropriately. Clifton is minimally verbal, and does not follow verbal directions. He can run and jump. His fine motor skills are improving. Clifton can hold a pencil and make marks on paper, but is not yet writing. He can eat independently. He needs assistance with brushing his teeth, but allows an adult to do it for him. As of 2017, Clifton's anxiety about being around new people and environments had decreased. He had become more sociable, seeking interaction with other children and accepting unfamiliar people. Clifton can say simple words like "no", "yes", and "give me".

Clifton was receiving therapy multiple times a week as of March 2017, but it is unclear what kind.

Clifton's developmental delays are likely caused by his Arnold Chiari Malformation. Arnold Chiari Malformation is a condition in which the brain does not sit properly inside the skull. As a result, children with this condition often have developmental delays.

Clifton is noted as having an "ectopic left kidney", which means that his kidney is in an abnormal position. Typically, this condition is well managed and causes no symptoms. In more severe cases, individuals have a greater risk of urinary tract infections and kidney stones. No information is provided about how Clifton's kidney condition impacts him, but an agency can give more info.

Clifton has a $5,000 grant with Reece's Rainbow, as well as a $2,500 grant with Wasatch Adoptions!

"Clifton"'s diagnoses may seem scary, but he is not a scary child. He has waited far too long for his forever family. Please see all the potential Clifton could reach if he was just given a CHANCE! Are you the family to have dance parties with Clifton? Click the link to make an inquiry!

UPDATE DECEMBER 2022

Clifton is now listed as "Dune" with Children's House International! Here is his update from Rainbowkids: Clifton is in good general health. He can feed himself. The child moves unaided with good coordination and a wide gait, with no need for support. It is stable when squatting, standing up, jumping, and getting on and off a chair, or bench. The child initiates physical and emotional contact with people closer to him, as well as with the specialists caring for the child. Interaction with children, when they are well known and accepted, is different from daily play activity — it is played continuously, and shows attempts to cooperate. Clifton desperately needs a family to help him reach his fullest potential. He has waited far too long. Please click the link above to make an inquiry. Make this his last holiday season as an orphan!
