FAMILY FOUND AUGUST 2023

"Michey"

Meet sweet "Michey"! Michey is 10 years old, and living in Eastern Europe. He has a long list of diagnoses, including a cleft palate. Michey's other diagnoses include Down Syndrome, hydrocephalus, congenital heart defect (AVSD), and a post meningitis infection.

Don't let Michey's long list of diagnoses scare you away! He is a sweet boy just as deserving of a family.

Not much is mentioned as to Michey's cleft palate, but it has been surgically corrected.

Michey loves to be outside. He loves listening to music, and playing on the swing.

Michey had little opportunities for mental stimulation for the first 7 years of his life, as he lived in a large orphanage. He is now in a group home, and beginning to make progress. Michey can walk with support, but not yet independently. He scoots to where he wants to go. He has a short attention span. He can hold a spoon, but cannot yet eat independently.

Michey is diagnosed as having an atrial ventricular septal defect, a type of CHD. He has had surgery for his condition. No other information is provided about Michey's CHD but an agency can give more info.

Michey is currently receiving therapy at his group home, but it is unclear as to what.

Michey qualifies for a $1,500 grant with Madison Adoptions. He also has a $15,000 grant towards his adoption with Reece's Rainbow!

Children with cleft palates aren't scary, and Michey sure isn't. He needs love from a family to help him reach his fullest potential, something he has lacked for so long. Michey has been overlooked since he was a tiny boy, and now at 9, it's his turn for a family! Could that family be yours?  UPDATE MARCH 2023

Michey is listed as "Fawkes" with Hopscotch! His bio reads: Michey continues to be in good health physically but is not making good progress developmentally. He can walk a few steps when held by the hands, including up and down stairs, and his crawling skills are improving. He stands with support and cruises along surfaces. Michey works under an Individualized Education Plan with a resource teacher, but it is difficult to engage him in academics or to hold his attention. He remains nonverbal and does not initiate interactions or play with others nor does he join group activities. When an adult communicates with Michey, he may smile or reach out his hand. A solution to reduce Michey's self injurious behaviors has not been found. Michey still likes listening to music, watching cartoons, and swinging outside.

UPDATE MAY 2023

Michey is listed as "Mason" with Alliance for Children! His update on Rainbowkids reads: With the support of an adult, Michey can walk and climb stairs. He takes 2-3 steps on his own, as he does not yet have an instinct for balance and coordination. Michey can crawl, coordinating his legs and arms, but when he is in a hurry he will use his hands to slide the rest of his body. He likes listening to music and watching cartoons. When the weather is nice, Michey likes to play on the swings outside. Michey attends school at the center for special educational support. He is trained on an individual program. A speech therapist, a psychologist and a rehabilitator work him.
