FAMILY FOUND AUGUST 2023

"Alexei"

Urgent need - condition deteriorating

Introducing "Alexei"! Alexei is 5 years old and living in Eastern Europe. He has a long list of diagnoses, including hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, multicystic encephalopathy, nonobstructive internal and external hydrocephalus, a umbilical hernia, and epilepsy. Alexei does not have a shunt for his hydrocephalus. He was also born premature, and uses a feeding tube.

Alexei may have a scary looking diagnoses, but he is not a scary child! He needs someone to love him as he is, and give him the care he needs.

Alexei reacts to some visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli, but is mostly passive.

Alexei lies in a crib in a stiff position for most of the day. He is completely dependent on his caregivers. He has a feeding tube to support nutrition, but he typically drinks from a bottle, though rarely finishes. He sleeps most the day and night, and is still in diapers.

Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy or HIE is a condition in which the brain receives very little oxygen or blood flow at birth. It is closely related to cerebral palsy, however the main difference is that HIE causes brain damage that can kill the neurons that transfer motor signals, while cerebral palsy is a movement and motor disorder. HIE can cause cerebral palsy. Children with HIE can have a wide range of severity, but the brain damage from HIE can cause developmental and cognitive delays and epilepsy.

Alexei's HIE seems to significantly impact his motor skills, cognitive delay, and possibly his epilepsy. An agency can give more info about how Alexei's condition impacts him.

Alexei takes medication for his epilepsy, but as of March 2021, his seizures had increased.

Alexei currently has $1,852.35 in his personal grant with Reece's Rainbow towards his adoption! He also has a $2,500 grant with Wasatch!

"Alexei" desperately needs a family and quality medical care. His body is getting weaker, and needs someone to save him before its too late. Please don't see Alexei as a diagnosis, see him as a little boy who needs a mama. Could you be Alexei's mama? Click the link to make an inquiry or donate towards Alexei's adoption.

UPDATE APRIL 2023

Alexei is now listed as "Isaiah" with Carolina Adoption Services!

Alexei is now listed as "Aziel" with Children's House International! His most recent update on Rainbowkids reads: Alexei is calm and completely dependent on the care of the staff. He does not show interest and desire for contact with other children, easily establishes tactile contact with adults, without resistance, including contact with unfamiliar adults.

Alexei is now listed as "Ivan" with Wasatch Adoptions! Alexei has continued to deteriorate. Alexei has expressed seizure activity and intensification of the opisthotonos positions. Despite the therapy applied, his state of health keeps deteriorating and he is in seizures most of the time. Alexei stays in opisthotonos position all the time. When he has seizures, his head touches his feet. Alexei has no head control; he does not move in his bed. He does not react to teasing and makes no contact with people talking to him. Alexei does not react to sounds, music or talking. He does not fix his eyes. Alexei produces snoring sounds when they move him.  There is no positive dynamics in his neurological state, just the opposite, it keeps deteriorating; his quadriparesis syndrome and taking the opisthotonos position has intensified. In view of the present disorders of the child’s nervous system, it is not expected that his clinical state of health will improve. When met by agency staff, Alexei did not react at all to their presence and to people talking to him or touching him. He did not react to the flashlight of the camera either. When the doctor picked him up, he started producing specific snoring sounds, he obviously dislikes being moved. Alexei does not move in bed; he only slightly moves his hands. According to staff his state has deteriorated considerably since March 2021. ALEXEI IS RUNNING OUT OF TIME. IF HE CONTINUES IN THIS CONDITION, IT WILL BE TOO LATE. PLEASE GIVE THIS ADORABLE LITTLE BOY A FAMILY. FOR HOWEVER MUCH TIME HE HAS LEFT, LET HIM BE LOVED!
