FAMILY FOUND APRIL 2023

"Eastyn"

Meet sweet "Eastyn"! Eastyn is 8 years old and living in Eastern Europe. In addition to spina bifida, Eastyn is also diagnosed with hydrocephalus, polymalformative syndrome, and neurogenic bladder.

Eastyn loves playing with toys and her caregivers. She is a bright and loving little girl!

Eastyn can sit with support, but does not attempt to stand. She has no movement in her legs. Eastyn gets around mostly by crawling. Eastyn can draw with a pencil, stack cubes, and do puzzles. She started talking at age 2, and loves to carry on conversations! She understands what is said to her and can follow directions. She can sort items by color and knows other basic preschool skills. She has good play skills, and loves baby dolls. She is not aggressive, but like most kids her age, does not like to share her toys. As of 2021, Eastyn still needed support when eating.

Eastyn had shunt surgery as an infant, and a vesicostomy at age 2 to prevent kidney infections.

Eastyn had spinal surgery at 20 days old. Like many children with spina bifida, Eastyn has struggled with kidney issues.

Eastyn has $1,055 in her personal grant with Reece's Rainbow towards her adoption!

Eastyn is a beautiful girl with so much potential. She has already had to experience so much in life without the love of a family by her side. As she gets bigger and older, her light and hope slowly fades. Eastyn could THRIVE if given the chance to. Could this perfect girl be your daughter? UPDATE OCTOBER 2022

Eastyn gets around by doing an army crawl. She actively participates in activities at her group home.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2023

Eastyn is now in 1st grade and is doing very well at school. She recognizes colors, animals and different objects, counts and is very good at puzzles.

Eastyn is now listed as "Natalie" with Children's House International! Her bio reads: Eastyn calm, and does not cry for no reason. She expresses positive and negative feelings in an appropriate way. There are no manifestations of aggression or self-aggression. Eastyn understands counter-speech at a basic level and can enter into a short dialogue. Sometimes she needs persistent attempts, visualization, and reformulation of the content of the question in order to understand what is being said. Eastyn uses appropriate social gestures when greeting and parting. She plays with familiar toys in a proper manner and with guidance. Eastyn plays mainly at the level of parallel activities.

Eastyn is now listed as "Neva" with Saint Mary International! Eastyn can sit up independently, but cannot stand. She does not have active movement in her legs. Eastyn can move both arms and will crawl using her arms. She can build a tower of 5-6 cubes, and can do crafts. Eastyn cannot write independently, and her drawings and writings look more like scribbles. She is generally calm, and does not cry for no reason. Eastyn expresses her feelings both positive and negative in an appropriate way. She does not show any signs of aggression or self aggression. Eastyn's speech is relevant to the situation, semi-intelligible, but struggles with grammar and articulation. Eastyn can hold short and simple conversations, and uses appropriate gestures when greeting and parting. She can follow instructions, but is distracted easily. Eastyn's behavior needs frequent modeling. Eastyn can initiate conversations, but struggles to maintain them. She knows the names of her peers and caregivers, and is calm among them. Communication with other children is at the level of giving or taking away a toy, touching, or verbally imitating adults in an attempt to communicate. Eastyn can play with familiar toys in an appropriate manner and with guidance. She mostly plays in the form of "parallel play". Eastyn has difficulty waiting, taking turns, and sharing toys with other children during structured play situations. She will squeeze the toy tightly and cries when it is taken from her. Eastyn cannot name her shapes and colors correctly, and cannot group together similar objects when given the opportunity. She has formed concepts about parts of the body, foods, animals, vehicles, seasons, phenomena, and weather but will not always answer questions related to them correctly. Eastyn is fully dependent on her caregivers for her hygiene needs, and cannot yet eat independently, though she tries. She is incontinent and cannot control her physiological needs. Eastyn sleeps peacefully throughout the night. Eastyn is getting older and bigger. I hate to watch such a beautiful little girl grow up within the walls of an orphanage, and not with a family. Please, if you think she could even be a possibility for your family, I ask you to scroll above and make an inquiry. Don't let this princess grow up without a mama!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2024
